OUR TRANSITION

At Pollination Foundation, we have always believed that lasting change happens when communities own the institutions, resources and decisions that shape their future.

As an Australian-founded organisation working globally, we felt a responsibility to have deeper impact here at home. When ReefTO a project that we had hosted for three years was ready to take its next step as an Alliance, we realised our greatest contribution was not to build another organisation alongside us. It was to bring our paths together.

After many months of careful planning, ReefTO Alliance launched on 30 September 2026 as an independent organisation owned and controlled by Great Barrier Reef Traditional Owners.

Through this transition, the ReefTO Alliance will assume ownership and control of Pollination Foundation’s platform and resources, strengthening its independence and capacity to advance Traditional Owner priorities and steward Sea Country for generations to come.

“The transition represents a significant investment in self-determination, cultural authority and the stewardship of the Great Barrier Reef,” said ReefTO Alliance Interim Co-Chair Shayne Blackman.

“We’ve built a strong partnership with Pollination Foundation, based on trust, respect, and shared understanding of what we’re working towards. They’ve back our vision, and now they’re backing us to lead it ourselves. That’s what a genuine partnership should look like.”

This new chapter for the Foundation begins at a critical time. The Great Barrier Reef is facing increasing pressure from climate change, including marine heatwaves, coral bleaching and increasingly severe weather events. Collective leadership and cultural stewardship have never been more important.

“At this moment, the choice was clear: investing in cultural stewardship of Sea Country would create the best outcome for nature,” said Ariadne Gorring, former Co-CEO of Pollination Foundation.

This website remains as an archive holding the stories, reports and thought leadership publications produced with partners over the past six years.

The transition in ownership and control relates solely to the not-for-profit Pollination Foundation. The Foundation is legally and operationally separate from Pollination Group.

and woven into a systems-based approach, elevating community knowledge and inspiring us to reimagine and nurture our relationship with nature.

Nature is valued

recognising that all life depends on it and that significant, sustained investment in natural ecosystems is critical.

Landscapes are healthy and resilient

because the relationship between people and nature is respected, allowing ecosystems to adapt and thrive through changes including climate shocks.
